Alain Mikli

Alain Mikli is a French-Armenian designer of handmade eyewear and accessories that are popular at Eyesite opticians. Famous for his unique use of colour and shape, Mikli’s designs are inspired by his Armenian-Lebanese heritage. Since opening his Paris design studio in 1978, Alain Mikli sunglasses have emerged as a worldwide phenomenon, particularly after his renowned ‘shutter shades’ were featured in the 2007 music video for “Stronger” by Kanye West.

Calvin Klein

The history of the Calvin Klein brand is short but fascinating. Bronx-born Klein set up a makeshift showroom in a New York hotel popular with clothing buyers in 1967. By chance, the elevator stopped at the wrong floor and highflying executive Don O’Brien caught a glimpse of Klein’s collection of 6 coats and 3 dresses and placed a $50,000 order. Since its foundation in 1940s France, fashion brand Elle has grown to become one of the largest women’s fashion magazines in the world. However Elle are also a fashion and design company in their own right, and their eyewear range is particularly sought after, having been worn by celebrities including Victoria Beckham and Elle MacPherson. The iconic American brand, first developed for US air force pilots in 1937, is one of the most recognisable in sunglasses today. Worn by US presidents, movie stars and everyone in between, Ray-Ban have been in fixture in US popular culture for over half a century. Silhouette

Austrian founders Anneliese and Arnold Schmied were working as traditional glasses makers in the 1960s, but decided to add new styles and frame designs at the request of their customers. Born in Texas in 1961, eyewear designer (and acclaimed film director) Tom Ford has become a household name in the fashion world. Moving to New York City to pursue a fashion career, Ford joined fashion label Gucci in 1994 as Creative Director. In 2004 he created the Tom Ford eyewear brand, recognised as a world leader in luxury sunglasses and glasses. William Morris

A distinctive English eyewear brand whose frames are made with ‘love and William Morris pride’.
