Tony Price’s London to Paris Bike Ride – Days 1 & 2

Tony Price, a long standing customer and friend of Eyesite, has embarked on a gruelling London to Paris Bike ride to raise money for Action Medical Research Events, a great children’s charity dedicated to improving the health of babies and children in the UK.

Sponsored by Bolle for his Eyewear, Tony is wearing a prescription pair of  ‘Winslow’ sunglasses to help him along.

The following is Tony’s account of the first 2 days…

Day 1

7.45 am start from Tower Bridge. Battled the London traffic until we got into the Kent countryside.  Don’t let anyone tell you that Kent is flat! We were directed via some serious hills to Dover; a distance of 85 miles! Onto the ferry then another 5 miles ride to our hotel in Calais. A tough day. A cold beer worked wonders however. And after all the knowledge that the money you raise for Action Medical Research for Children is contributing to such vital work, keeps you going. And the Bolle prescription sunglasses did their job…..how nice to be able to read maps and road signs without changing glasses! I will also use them to read piste maps when I am skiing in the winter.

Day 2

Another 7.45 start this time from from Calais. Hard work to begin with but only 75 miles today, they are treating us gently! Not quite as hilly as yesterday thank goodness, but it is hot…..over 30 degrees in the afternoon. Lots of water stops, dehydration is a problem unless you keep drinking. Lovely French countryside and a bit more time to enjoy it, without the pressure of having to catch a ferry. Even had time to stop for a welcome coffee plus of course the obligatory cold beer at the end, the end being a pleasant little town called Abbeville. So a good meal and a drink or two and time to plan tomorrow’s ride.

Well done so far Tony!
