Spectacle Lens Coatings
Choosing your lens coatings
Depending on your needs and preferences, there is a range of coatings available to enhance and protect your lenses.
Anti-reflection coating
Anti-reflection coating virtually eliminates distracting reflections from the lens surface. Reducing reflected light is particularly helpful for computer users and for night driving. Anti-reflection coatings also improve the cosmetic appearance of your glasses and can make thick lenses look thinner.
Scratch-resistant / hard coating
Plastic lenses are lighter than traditional glass lenses but they scratch more easily, which can be irritating for the wearer and look unsightly. Scratch-resistant coatings protect against damage and prolong lens life.
Multi-coated lenses
Multi-coated lenses incorporate a combination of coatings – anti-reflection, scratch-resistant, water repellent and UV – to provide ultimate protection for your lenses and ensure optimum performance of your spectacles.
Crizal Scotchgard
One of our favourite coatings is the Alize-Scotchgard coating, designed by 3M. This helps prevent dust and grease from settling on the lens surface, making it easier to keep clear and clean.
